Roy Sablosky to speak at Atheist Alliance International conference
I will be speaking at the Atheist Alliance International annual conference in Burbank, California this October. Other speakers include Bill Maher, Daniel Dennett and Richard Dawkins. I’ll be speaking on Sunday, October 4th — the exact time has not been set.
For a hint about the topic of my talk, read my earlier post, Agent Smith on religion.
A variant of the “courtier’s reply”: the pit bull lover’s challenge
How can you be against pit bulls if you don’t know their history, their habits and preferences, their sub-breeds, the names of all the important studs?
I am against them because if they don’t like you for whatever reason they will sink their teeth into your flesh down to the bone and not let go until they are made unconscious. Furthermore, they were made like this intentionally. This is what pit bulls are for. I am against them because they cause more harm than good. It’s that simple.
Agent Smith on religion
I’d like to share a revelation that I’ve had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to understand your so-called “religious beliefs” and I realized that they’re not actually beliefs. A belief is an idea about the natural world, but a religious belief is not. Religious beliefs are not ideas but memes: meaningless bundles of words, that move from mind to mind and multiply and multiply until every mind is consumed and the only way to avoid them is to move to Canada. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Religious “beliefs” are not ideas, they are a disease. Ideas are the cure.
